The final day of the Northern Senior League saw Spen stay in Division 2

Starting with the men’s track, youngsters Ben Wilson and Jacob Pollard both filled in the 100 and 200 metres, with Ben winning his heat in the 100 metres with Jacob equalling his best time. Ben also claimed a win in the triple jump just missing his pb. To a more experienced member of the team Jason Newell competed in the 400 metres, 400 metre hurdles, 110 metre hurdles, triple jump, high jump and pole vault and still managing to claim a pb in the 110 metre hurdles by over a second. Daniel Smith also ran the 400 metres with a pb time as well as a strong time in the 800 metres. In the 1,500 metres Henry Carter ran a good race just missing out on a pb time as well as Ian Ogden running a seasons best time. In the steeple chase Tom Dart ran 14 seconds off his pb time in the hot conditions on the day. Also battling the heat running the 5K, Joe Sagar raced round to finish in second with Kevin Ogden finishing third in the B string. In the throws Darren Thomas continued his seasons form with three second places in the shot, hammer and discus while also winning the B string javelin. Jake Darby also claimed two seconds in the shot and hammer with a pb in the shot as well as a third place in the discus. An injured Glenn Aspindle still managed to do his part for the team, a win in the pole vault, a second in the javelin and two fourth places in the long and high jump. The 4 x100 relay of Dart, Sagar, Darby and Smith and the 4x 400 relay of Newell, Aspindle, Carter and Smith both managed to get the baton round faultlessly.

In the women’s team, Ciara Flannery ran a sb time in the 100 metres in such a close finish the top three gained the same time with Ciara unfortunately been placed third. Ciara also claimed a second place in the 200 metres with another season’s best time. Also in the 100 and 200 metres Holly Martin sprinted her way to two mins in the B string as well as equalling her pb in the 200 metres. Amanda Pearson once again showed her team spirit by running the 400 and 800 metres and setting a seasons best time in the 800 metres. The duo of Natasha Geere and Jackie Carter battled the heat in both the 1,500 metres and the 3K, Natasha claimed a third place in the 1,500 with Jackie running a seasons best in both. Molly Waring hurdled her way to victory in the 400 metre hurdles as well as attempting the sprint hurdles for the first time and gaining a fourth place finish. In the throws Beth Thomas had an easy win in the hammer backed up with a second place in the discus, a win with a season’s best throw in the B string shot and a fourth place in the Javelin. After returning from holiday hours before, Charlotte Bell won the B string hammer as well as a second in the discus B string. Fiona Thomas threw her way to a shot putt win as well as a season’s best in the javelin. In the long jump Olivia Reah finished second with a personal best jump with Emma Rawnsley also jumping her way to a win in the B string. The duo also competed in the triple jump this time with Olivia winning with a pb jump and Emma finishing second just missing a pb. Emma also had a fourth place finish in the high jump along with Molly who won the B string. The 4x 100 metre relay team of Flannery, Martin, Waring and Reah faultlessly got the baton round to claim a win. The 4x 400 metre relay of Geere, Rawnsley, Pearson and Carter also got the baton round faultlessly.

Blackburn wins the division with Holmfirth also go into the promotion match with them, while Bury and East Cheshire go down a division. Leaving Team Spen and Bolton are to stay in the division for another season.
