Six Spenborough athletes stepped up to the higher level of competition with some personal best performances at the Northern Senior and Under 20 Athletics Championships in Manchester's Sports City stadium over the weekend.
In the 100 metres a sub 11 seconds time would be needed to reach the final and
Dominic Lamb responded in a personal best time of 10.81 secs to finish second in his heat and qualify for the final where he placed 5th in 11.00 secs. The following day Dominic finished 5th in his heat of the 200 metres.
Joe Sagar was as competitive as ever in the 5000 metres and was rewarded with a life time best performance of 15 mins 21.79 secs. Just as competitive was
Simon Bolland in the 1500 metres where he ran one of his fastest races to finish 12th in a time of 4 mins 17.20 secs.
Three women from Spenborough took part in the Championships.
Charlotte Bell threw a personal best in the under 20 discus to place 5th. Breezy conditions affected the women's sprints on Sunday.
Holly Martin ran her fastest ever but wind assisted time of 26.39 secs to finish 6th in her heat of the 200 metres while
Molly Waring battled against the wind in the under 20 women's 400 metre hurdles to place 5th in a season's best performance of 67.22 secs.
