On a training night in September the club was visited by Chris Jones, the CEO of England Athletics who wanted to see first hand how the club operates and thrives on the selfless volunteering by the members. Also visiting the club were the England Athletics Club Support Manager Emma Hurst and Assistant Operation Manager Amy Andrews, from Kirklees Active Leisure. Jason Newell, our Chairman, had the pleasure of showing the party around the facilities and meeting members who were happy to share their experiences.
You can read about the visit on the England Athletics website.
The club lease the track from Kirklees Council for club training nights as well as competitions. Both Jason and Amy spoke about recent improvements to the track including pole vault, throws and the stand. Chris Jones commented "What was also reassuring was the strong partnership that the club has with the Track Operator, KAL, who manage the track facility but who also recognise the huge contribution the club makes to both sporting and wider agendas in the community."
The article also mentions our longest running event, the Spen 20, which has been held at the track for over 40 years. You can read more about next year's event here and read about the insights of Terry Lonergan, who has been running the race since 1977!
