The second fixture of the YADAL 2025 season saw a return to home as the Princess Mary Stadium hosted the days action. After a strong start at the first fixture, we looked to continue the momentum going forward.
Starting with the Under 13 Boys where Thomas Gibbins impressed as he claimed three new Personal Bests (PB) as he earnt a victory in the 100m, a third place in the 200m and also finished fourth in the Long Jump. Aidan Rhodes was not going to miss out on the PB action as he too claimed PB’s in the High Jump and Discus as well as his third best jump of the season in the Long Jump.
In the Under 13 Girls, Lucy Hird earnt herself a new PB in a third place finish in the Discus before a hard fought fourth place in the 100m as well as a Season’s Best (SB) in the Long Jump. Willow Griffiths achieved two PB’s in the Discus and the 100m, finishing second in her 100m race. Gabi Lauce picked up herself a PB in the 200m before leaping to a second place in the High Jump with her second highest jump of the season. In the 800m it was a third place finish for Stella Zurek in her second quickest time of the year, as well as her second highest jump of the season in the High Jump to finish fourth. Maria Edwards won her race in the 800m before going on to jump to a SB distance in the Long Jump.
Over to the Under 15 Boys, where Joshua Reed leapt to a victory in the Long Jump with a new PB jump, before claiming a second victory of the day in the High Jump. Joel Cousin sprinted his way to a second place in the 200m in a new PB time, before backing it up with a second place finish in the High Jump. Noah Byrne earnt himself a PB in the Shot Putt, a third best jump of the season in the Long Jump, before first competition attempt at the 2,000m finishing in third place. Daniel Antonovs re-joined the team and sprinted his way to a second place finish in the 100m on first competition attempt.
In the Under 15 Girls, Katie Bailey joined the team for the first time and sprinted to a victory in the 100m and a second place finish followed in the 800m, setting strong PB’s in both events. Eva Armitage earnt herself to a third place finish overall in the 800m in her second quickest time of the year, before going on to run her second quickest time of the shorter 300m distance.
Hannah Whitaker sprinted her way to a fourth place finish in her second quickest time of the year, before going on to throw a new PB distance in the Shot Putt. In the 2,000m it was first competition attempt for Abi Hildon as she earned a third place finish. Rosie Hildon had a strong sprint in the 100m before going on to equal her PB distance exactly in the Long Jump.
Molly Hartley leapt to a victory in her Long Jump competition and second place finish followed in the Javelin on first competition attempt of both events. Zara Griffiths threw her way to a third place finish in her Shot Putt competition with a second furthest distance of the season. Molly Miller and Isabel Anders joined the team for the first time with Molly having an impressive run in the 200m, whilst Isabel earnt a fourth place in the Javelin setting a strong PB.
Moving on to the Under 17 Men where Arjun Pahal sprinted to victory in the 100m in a new PB time, it was then a SB distance in the Javelin, as well as an equal PB height in the High Jump. Robert Harness gained himself a PB and a victory in the 800m before claiming a second victory in the 400m. Daniel Stubley earnt himself a PB and first place in his 100m race as well as achieving a new PB distance in the Long Jump. Reece Bridgeman sprinted to a victory on his first competition attempt at the 400m, as well as a third place in the Long Jump with his second best jump of the season. Ben Whitaker sprinted his way to a victory and a new PB in his 200m race, whilst William McIntosh showed his speed in the 100m earning a victory.
Finally onto the Under 17 Ladies where Poppy Nuttman ran to a second place finish in the 300m, it was a second place finish in the Javelin on first competition attempt and a second place followed in the Shot Putt with her second best distance of the season. Poppy Watts sprinted her way to a second place finish in the 200m, as well as gaining an SB distance in the Long Jump. Jeya Aujla sprinted her way to a new PB in the 200m as she gained a second place finish.
The Relays saw 6 Spenborough teams running, the Under 13 Girls team consisting of Lucy Hird, Maria Edwards, Stella Zurek and Willow Griffiths sprinted to second place in their 4x100m relay. The Under 15 girls team of Rosie Hildon, Zara Griffiths, Hannah Whitaker & Isabelle Anders had a strong race to finish third place in the 4x100m. The Under 15 Boys earnt themselves a second place finish with the team of Daniel Antonovs, Joel Cousins, Joshua Reed and Noah Byrne. The Under 17 Men’s team achieved a victory in their 4x100m relay with the team consisting of Arjun Pahal, Ben Whitaker, Daniel Stubley & Reece Bridgman.
In the 4x300m Mixed Relays, the Under 15 team of Joshua Reed, Noah Byrne, Abi Hildon & Eva Armitage achieved a second place finish. Whilst the Under 17 mixed team of Robert Harness, Will McIntosh, Jeya Aujla & Poppy Nuttman earnt themselves a victory.
Spenborough remain in second place in the league after a closely contested third place finish at the second fixture. We look to continue the fantastic performance at the third fixture on the 28th June at Cleethorpes.
