The third fixture of the senior league season saw the team on their annual trip up to York. With two second places already secured this season the team were positive going into the fixture even with a slightly depleted team.

The day got kicked off in style by the usual all rounding duo of Glenn Aspindle and Jake Darby, as Glenn vaulted his was to a Personal Best Height in the Pole Vault, whilst Jake claimed an early victory with a close to PB throw in the Hammer Throw.

Glenn continued his form with a victory in the 110m Hurdles with a Season’s Best run, a second place in the High Jump, a second place in the Javelin adding 4cm onto his SB distance and topped off with a third place in the Long Jump.

Jake went on to add a victory in both the B string High Jump and B string 110m Hurdles with an equal SB time, a Seasons Best jump in the triple jump, along with a fourth and fifth place in the Discus and Shot respectively.

Connor Bell strengthen the field results further as he threw a PB in the Hammer Throw and threw his third best distance of the season in the Discus.

James Bell also added to this strength as he threw a PB distance in the Javelin by breaking the 30m barrier with the senior men’s weight as well as throwing his second furthest Shot Putt distance of the season.

On the track Kieran O’Brien joined the team for the first time and ran his third quickest time of the year over the 400m distance before going on to run the 800m and running his second quickest time of the year.

Tyler Cossins was back covering the shorter distance for the team, running his second quickest time of the year over the 100m distance, forth quickest run over the 200m and finished off with a SB jump in the Long Jump.

The Women’s side also had an ensemble of great results with the duo of Molly Waring and Soraya Crodden picking up a double first place finish in the 400m hurdles, clearing hurdles and Goose on their lap around the track.

Molly continue her fine form through the season with a victory in the 100m in her second quickest of the year, a second place in the 400m, a first place in the 200m B race, as well as a SB jump in the High Jump.

Soraya also earnt a first place in the B race of the 100m and the 100m Hurdles, a second place in the Long Jump B and finishing with a fourth place in the Discus B, all building the teams points tally.

Isabel White built on her seasons positive results by adding another victory over the 200m distance to her list.

Estelle Williams was back in the team and earnt a well fought victory in the 100m Hurdles A, ran her second quickest 400m to date and gained a second place in the High Jump B to top it all off.

Emily Sharp made her debut into the team and ran her quickest 800m time of the year before moving up to the senior weight in the Shout Putt and had her first competitive try at the Javelin adding further points to the team.

Also in the field, Olivia Reah was back in the team and it was a flawless return picking up the win in both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump, reaching a SB in the Triple by 1cm, every cm counts!

Catriona Gentleman was another returning to the team after a small time away and she too only increased the strength of the team, with a first place finish in the Hammer Throw, a second place in the Shot Putt B and a fourth place finish in the Discus.

Onto the relays where we managed to field three team this time, the men’s team of Cossins, Aspindle, J.Bell and O’Brien navigated the baton around in second place in the 4x100m.
The women’s team of Crodden, Waring, Williams and White went one place better to win their 4x100m relay. The Women’s 4x400m relay of Sharp, Waring, White and Crodden managed a second place finish to sign off the day in style.

One over looked point of the fixture was the officials and Spenborough officials were out in force. The team’s officials did a spectacular job on the long throws making sure the day went smoothly and their efforts were appreciated by hosts Harrogate as well as their efforts on the track.
It was also a debut of the clubs brand new officials Polos very kindly sponsored by Expect Distribution, to make the team look even more professional.

So as the day drew to an end and the points were tallied up for the third fixture, the scores on the doors were:

The first win of the season we make another step clear of third place overall in the league and within one match point of first place. With one match to go it’s all to play for!

The final fixture is on the 19th August taking place at Cudworth, Barnsley.
