The second fixture of the Senior League saw Spenborough try to continue building on the positive momentum of the first fixture.

The second fixture of the senior league saw us back on home turf as we stood in to host the fixture. After a week of sunny warm weather (yes surprising for Yorkshire), we were faced with another hot and humid day. After a second place finish at the first fixture of the season, we were set to keep the momentum rolling into this fixture.

The day once again kicked off strong on the track as the dynamic duo of Molly Waring and Soraya Crodden both claimed 1st place finishes in the Women’s 400m hurdles A and B race respectively, with Soraya picking up a Seasons Best.

Molly had a flawless day with two further 1st place finishes with a win in the 400m and a clean run to a victory on the 100m hurdles.
Soraya also remained strong with a second place in the B ace of the 100m in a very tightly finished race and a second place in the Long Jump B.

Isabel White maintained the dominance in the women's A sprints, claiming a first place in the 100m with a determined last 20m to cross the line first and complimented with a 1st place finish in the 200m.

Molly Firth was back in the red and yellow of Spenborough and was back with a first place finish in the 200m B race, beating her Seasons Best from last season.

Ellie Holden also made a return to the team, with a determined running seeing her finish 4th in the Women’s 800m A string. Ellie also picked up a 2nd place in the Long Jump A by jumping to an equal PB, before going on to pick up another 2nd place in the Javelin B string.

Lynda Robertson joined the team and had two motivated races to get a 2nd place finish in the B string 800m as well as a 3rd place finish in the 400m.

Youngster Estelle Williams had a clean run in the 100m Hurdles to claim the victory in the B string, backed up with a 2nd place in the High Jump by equalling her PB and going on to throw a PB in the Discus.

In the women’s field, it was to be a Personal Best for Siobhan Maskill as she Hop Stepped and Jumped her way to a third place finish before moving on to a fourth place finish in the Javelin as well.

Onto the Men’s track where Ian Wilson joined the team to run a PB in both the 400m and the 800m, accompanied by Ian Ogden in the 800m, where he also managed to improve on last season’s time before going on to a gutsy run in the 1500m.

Tyler Cossins continued his runs in the short sprints with a fourth place finish in the 200m and a strong run in the 100m.

Youngster Ben Morris joined Tyler in the 100m and a powerful run helped claim a third place finish in the B race.

Simon Bolland-Cage stepped up to fill in the 200m B race after (checks notes) over a decade since last running one, with a rather impressive run. But back to familiar ground over the 1,500m where a well earnt 4th place finish.

Then across the longest distance of the day, Kevin Ogden battled the 5,000m in humid conditions to a third place finish and almost half a minute SB.

In the men’s filed, Rueben Byfield propelled himself to a new PB in the Triple Jump as he claimed pole position.

Connor Bell started his day off strong by breaking the 30m barrier in the Men’s Hammer, setting a new PB and claiming the first place position. It was then a 4th place finish in the B Discus hitting a SB.

James Bell threw himself a PB in the Shot Putt as he managed a 4th place finish in the B string.

The ever present reliable duo of Glenn Aspindle and Jake Darby reigned in the points as Glenn started his day with a victory in the Pole Vault, a third place in the Long Jump with an equal SB distance, a second place in the High Jump, a second place in the Javelin before all being topped off with a victory on the track as SB run in the 110m Hurdles got him across the line in first.

Jake also started his day off strong with a second place in the Hammer, a fourth place in the Discus with a SB throw, third place in the Shot Putt A, all before three first place finishes in the B Triple Jump, High Jump and 110m Hurdles picking up an SB time.

Yet again we fielded all four relay teams, with the Women’s 4x100m team of Williams, Waring, Firth and White finishing victorious, with the Men’s 4x100m of Cossins, Aspindle, J.Bell and Darby holding on to a tight second place finish.
The Women’s 4x400m team maintained their good form as Holden, Firth, White and Waring finished with yet another first place finish. The Men’s team of Bolland-Cage, I.Ogden, K.Ogden and Aspindle worked hard to get the baton around in the Men’s 4x400m.

A fantastic effort by all of athletes involved and a fantastic effort by all the Spenborough volunteers and officials who did a spectacular job to make the day run smoothly.
