Spenborough claimed a third place finish at the opening Senior League Fixture

A new season of the senior league once again began at the Costello Stadium in Hull. In contrast to the week prior the weather was clear skies and sun, perfect for the day of athletics to come.

Starting with the men’s team, Bayleigh Lawton returned to the team with a knockout performance finishing with a win and a PB in the 200m as well as a second place in the 100m. Tyler Cossins was the counter part of Bayleigh in the sprints running impressive races in both the 100 and 200m along with a good display in the long jump. Also in the long jump was Rueben Byfield who managed to beat his PB by 1cm from the week prior, complimented with a second place in the triple jump. In the middle distance Kevin Ogden out run his 1500m time from last season as well as claiming a fourth place finish in the 800m. In the 5000m a spectacular effort from both Joe Sagar and Simon Bolland saw them both claim first place in their respective races, both comfortably finishing in front of second place. In the Throws Connor Bell picked up two third places in the Shot Putt and Hammer throw whilst collecting further points in the Javelin and Discus. Jake Darby rounded off the team with a third place finish in the 110 hurdles and gaining a chunk of points in the hammer, shot, discus and Javelin.

In the Women’s team, Spenborough saw success in the sprints with Isabel White achieving two second places in the 100 and 200m with a SB in the 200m. Molly Waring joined Isabel in the 100m to finish first in her race while Holly Martin ran in the 200m and also gained a victory. Holly also ran the 100m non-scoring along with Summer Haynes who joined the team for the first time. Summer ran in the 400m along with Soraya Crodden who between them both had impressive races. Soraya showed her skills with a first place in the 400m hurdles and a second place in the 100m hurdles. Molly joined Soraya and claimed first place in the 100m hurdles in her race. The duo also went on to both secure points in the long jump with Molly going on to gain a third place in the high jump. In the throws Megan Ascough showed she was not to be messed with, finishing first in the shot putt with a PB throw, second in the hammer and discus with an SB in the discus and a fourth place in the Javelin. She was joined by Holly in the Discus who claimed a first place finish with a PB throw, Isabel joined her in the shot to add a third place finish and Molly joined in the Javelin to claim another third place.

We were able to run two successful relay teams with the women’s 4x100m team of Waring, Crodden, Martin and White smashed a first place finish. The men’s 4x400m team of Cossins, Sagar, Ogden and Darby were able to claim a third place finish.

With the total points added up Spenborough managed to get a third place finish on the day just seeing off Hallamshire! A great effort by all involved which hopefully can be built on at the next fixture.
