And lots of racing at the end of June

The last weekend in June was a scorcher and a busy weekend for many of the Senior Road Runners, with racing at park runs, 5 miles, 10k, 10 miles, through to an ultra endure 24hr race. Lisa Dowson, Amanda Pearson and Victoria Thompson tackled the very hilly 5m on the Friday from Honley. Saturday through to Sunday saw hundreds of runners take on the endure 24 , with our very own postie, Richard Hirst completed a whopping 85 miles and Be Curly managed 55 miles before she had to give in due to injury of broken toes. Lewis Bellwood and his 2 team mates did a massive 110 miles between them. This was the hottest weekend of the year to date, so massive respect to everyone who took part.

It was also the Eccup 10 miles, which some of the Seniors ran, and local race the Lindley 10k; a challenging course in which Henry Carter came home in 4th. One of our newer members, David Buckley, also had a good run.

Wednesday the 3rd July was the Helen Windsor 10k on the GP which is always popular with Spen athletes and a good number took part on yet another hot day. Our very own Joe Sagar won the race and also beat the course record. This year the race incorporated the YVAA 10k championships and Spen's Edward Revell and Ian Wilson won 1st and 2nd M40, while Gerrard Skippins got 2nd M45.
