A busy weekend of athletics, as the Yorkshire County Track and Field Championships took place yet again at the Dorothy Hyman Stadium in Barnsley. 13 Spenborough athletes took part in the Championships across the two days with a fantastic haul of 15 medals, including a few county titles.
The first of the county titles was won by Reuben Byfield as his long season’s best leap in the Triple Jump helped him retain his county title even after moving up an age group.
Molly Waring improved her silver medal from last year into a gold medal as she claimed the county title in the 400m Hurdles in a season’s best time. As well as a season’s best run in the 100m Hurdles to finish forth.
Isabel White joined Molly in upgrading medal colour, by claiming County Champion title compared to last year’s bronze medal in the Under 20 Women’s 200m, finishing in a Personal Best time. Then another medal to add to the haul, as Isabel picked up a bronze medal in the Under 20 Women’s 100m.
It was an improvement for Bayleigh Lawton as well, from a third place finish in the Under 20 Men’s 400m last year, it was to be gold this year as a seasons best time help him claim the county title after a first place finish in the heats. Before picking up a silver medal in a very close finish in the Under 20 Men’s 200m.
Olivia Reah kicked off day two with a victory in the Senior Women’s Triple Jump with a season’s best distance, claiming the county champion title. Then a third place finish in the Senior Women’s Long Jump as Olivia claim her second medal of the Championships.
There were a number of Silver medals picked up too, as Poppy Henson ran a strong race to claim second place in the Under 15’s 3,000m race.
Also in the long distance it was a well fought Silver Medal for Simon Bolland-Cage in the Senior Men’s 5,000m, finishing in a Personal Best time.
Natalie Groves returned from Uni to run a Season’s Best time for a comfortable second place finish in the Under 20 Women’s 400m.
It was a double Bronze for the experienced Glenn Aspindle, with a third place finish in the Senior Men’s Javelin and Senior Men’s Pole Vault.
It was a double Bronze for Olivia Myers at her County Championships debut, with a third place finish in the Under 17 Women’s Hammer Throw, before going on to pick up a second third place finish in the Under 17 Women’s Long Jump.
A busy weekend for Millie Rhodes saw a third place finish in the Under 15 Girls 300m, progressing her to a tightly contested final, finishing in fourth place. On day two a fourth place finish in the 800m helped Millie reach another final, finishing sixth place in the Under 15 Girls 800m final.
Milana Bulgin closed in on a Personal Best height in the Under 15 Girls High Jump as well as a fourth place finish in the Under 15 Girls 100m heats.
Abigail Lane ran a Personal Best time in the Under 15 Girls 200m to finish fourth in her heat.
