Our Lower Age Group team (Under 14’s & Under 16’s) re-joined in the North East 1 Division. The league consisted of City of Sheffield, Doncaster, Leeds City, Rotherham, Scunthorpe, Spenborough and Wakefield.
Fixture 1 saw the team travel to Rotherham for the first fixture where 23 athletes competed for the club across both age groups which was a fantastic improvement from our last outing in the league. It was a sixth place finish on the day for team Spen.
It was a home fixture for the second Fixture, as the Princess Mary Stadium hosted the traveling teams. The home crowed cheered the Spenborough athletes throughout the fixture as the team ended in a joint forth position.
A short away trip to the John Charles Stadium in Leeds welcomed the third fixture for the Lower Age Group teams. It was another sixth place finish for Team Spen but enough to climb one place in the league standings.
Fixture 4 saw us back on the road, traveling to Doncaster, to wrap us the season. During the school holidays, athlete numbers were down but the performance from the team was still fantastic. Leading us to an expected fifth or sixth place finish in the table, final results pending.
Upper Age Group
Our Upper Age Group team (Under 18’s & Under 20’s) were thrown in the deep end straight into the North Premier East Division joining the teams of City of Sheffield, City of York, Doncaster & Chesterfield, Gateshead Harriers, Kingston Upon Hull, Leeds City and South Yorkshire Dons.
With a clash of fixtures for the first fixture in the season, it was an away trip to Doncaster to get things kicked off. In a very competitive first fixture Team Spen finished in seventh place.
Fixture 2 was a trip North to York where we finished one place higher on the day to finish in sixth place and lift us into sixth in the league standings.
The third and final fixture for the Upper Age Group was yet again a clash of fixtures, limiting our numbers on the trip across to Kingston upon Hull. Though depleted in numbers it was another sixth place finish on the day and secure a sixth place finish overall in the league.
Well Done to all Spenborough AC athletes involved across both teams, establishing an impressive first season back within the league.
Thanks go to Team Managers Gavin and Lee and all the Track & Field Officials and helpers within the club who helped out across all the fixtures.
