The outdoor season got kicked off in West Yorkshire with our very own Spring Open event, 25 Spen athletes got their outdoor season underway with a collage of impressive results.
Before we get into the results round up, the day wouldn’t have been able to go ahead without the incredible officials on the track, field and behind the scenes so a big thanks goes out to all those who helped with the event.
In the U11’s, Kieran Hird started his second season off with a bang with impressive PB’s in all three of the 75m, 600m and Long Jump. We had three under 11’s competing for the first time, Lucy Hird set quick personal best in both the 75m and 150m sprints and leaped to set a Long Jump PB. Raees Muftee found his feet on the track with an impressive races in the 75m and 600m. Aidan Rhodes had an imposing display in the Shot Putt, 75m and Long Jump.
Moving up an age group, Noah Byrne tackled the step up in distance from the 600m to the 800m and set a strong time for the upcoming season. Also moving up into the Under 13’s, Hannah Whitaker and Eva Armitage both smashed their PB times in the 75m, before both going on to beat their Long Jump PB and then finishing the day off by both yet again beating their PB’s in the 600m. We had one new first time in the Under 13’s as Lawrence Carr leapt to a second place in the High Jump and a second place finish in the 100m as well as setting a PB in the Long Jump.
In the under 15’s, Ben Whitaker started his season off strong by beating his 200m PB, and almost beating his PB’s in the Shot Putt and 100m. Millie Rhodes moved up to the Under 15’s and straight away beat her 200m PB and the Long Jump and then ran her second quickest 800m of the year. Milana Bulgin returned for her second year in the age group, with two strong runs in the 100m and 200m sprints. Abigail Lane also started her second year in the age group and beat her 200m PB time and had close to PB results in the 100m and High Jump. We had two first times in the Under 15’s as Reece Bridgeman set strong PB’s in the 100m and the Long Jump, whilst Sophie Jackson also set a strong PB in the 100m.
In the Under 17’s, Estelle Williams beat her Seasons Best in the Long Jump along with 2 strong races in the 100 and 200m. Isla Boocock was fractions away from a PB in the Long Jump and the 200m with a robust return to competing. Emily Sharp transitioned from the Indoor to Outdoor season moving back up to 800m, as well as a second place in the Shot Putt and equalling distance with Isla in the Long Jump. Sophie Parker was the only first timer in the Under 17’s as she ran an impressive race in the 800m and took off in the Long Jump, setting a good target for the upcoming season.
In the Under 20’s, James Bell moved up weight in the Shot Putt tackling the 6Kg Shot well, before going on to beat his PB in the Javelin. Lily Croughan returned to move up Hammer and Shot Putt weight and set a strong PB’s in both. Isabel White claimed her first victory of the year in the U20/Sen Women’s 200m and her second quickest time over the 400m. In the 800m, Summer Haynes equalled her time from last year before going on to also equal her best time from last year in the 200m as well.
Glenn Aspindle once again returned with a victory in the Pole Vault and got back into the swing of things in the throws with the Javelin and Shot Putt. Molly Waring started the season as strong as last year with a victory in the 400m and a second place in the 200m. Kieran O’Brien made his club debut on the track with impressive runs in the 200m and 800m and picking up a third place finish in the 400m.
