Action returned to Cudworth for the annual Yorkshire County Track & Field Championships and it was a nice surprise the Yorkshire Board had managed to order the Summer sunshine early for the weekends event.
The peace and quiet of the Saturday morning was disturbed as the track got underway by the echo of the starting pistol and saw Molly Waring earn a Silver Medal in the Senior Women’s 400m Hurdles before later going on to earn a further Silver Medal in the Senior Women’s 100m Hurdles, both in Seasons Best times.
The weekend would see a dominant display from Millie Rhodes as she cruised through into the Under 15 Girls 300m Final finishing first in her heat. It would then be a blistering run in the 300m final to claim the Gold Medal, County Champion Title and County Championship Record! Day 2 started just as well for Millie as again she finished first in her 200m heat to progress to the final, where yet again a fantastic run saw her claim her second Gold Medal of the weekend and second County Champion Title finishing in a Personal Best time.
Glenn Aspindle improved throughout the weekend as he started with a Bronze Medal in the Senior Men’s Javelin. He went on to improve this in the 110m Hurdles as a Seasons Best time would earn him a Silver Medal, before ending his weekend with a Gold Medal in the Long Jump and claiming the County Champion Title!
It was a successful medal haul for Olivia Myers as she earnt a third place in the Under 17 Women’s Triple Jump on the Saturday in a second longest jump of the season. The Sunday saw her pick up two more Medals as a Seasons Best throw in the Hammer and a second longest distance of the Season in the Long Jump led her to two Bronze Medals.
Kieran Hird impressed as he ran a Personal Best time in the Under 13 Boy’s 100m Heat to earn himself a spot in the final. A determined run saw a strong sixth place finish in the final on his first time at the Championships. Kieran would later go on to claim his own medal as a third best jump of the season saw him earn a Bronze Medal in the Long Jump.
Isabel White covered the shorter distances on the track, running a Seasons Best time in the Senior Women’s 100m to finish third place in her heat and gain herself a spot in the final. A strong run just behind her heat time gave her a sixth place finish. Isabel would then go onto run the 200m and a strong run saw a third place finish in her heat but just not quite enough for a place in the final.
Adaze Ulebor dropped down to the 100m for the first time as she had an impressive run to finish in seventh in the Under 20 Women’s 100m final.
A thank you to all the organisers of the Championships and well done to all the Spenborough officials and volunteers who helped support the event.
