On Sunday 13th January, the club’s very own Fell Running Secretary Jackie Carter led a team of hardy runners to the notoriously difficult Stanbury Splash Fell Race at Penistone.
Jackie was accompanied by Craig Hampshire and Henry Carter, who tackled the 7-mile course in very difficult conditions.
Strong winds and heavy rain meant strict fell running rules had to be enforced, with all runners having to carry full kit (waterproof trousers, waterproof jacket, hat, gloves). The race includes three river crossings, a rapid downhill descent and arduous uphill climbs across the moors.
Henry Carter made good ground in the second half, passing several runners on the fast descents. Henry, a junior member of the Fell Running Association, managed a respectable 67 minutes. Craig Hampshire closely followed in a strong performance of 73 minutes in his first time on this course.
Jackie, no stranger to this course, brought the team home in 95 minutes.
A very enjoyable race which we’d definitely recommend! Details can be found on Wharfedale Harriers website.
