A sunny day at Bury started with a strong presence in the field, two first places in the pole vault for Glenn Aspindle in the A string and Jason Newell in the B string. Followed by a second place in the A string men’s hammer for Darren Thomas and a first place in the B string for Jake Darby. Only to be beaten by the women’s hammer, where Beth Thomas and Charlotte Bell gained first place in the A and B string respectively. Adding to the strong start, Olivia Reah claimed second place in the A string in the Long jump with Emma Rawnsley claiming third place in the B string. This form continued with a second place for Glenn with team player Geoff Render scoring points for the team with a fifth place in the B string.
Onto the track where our strong form continued with a second place finish for Molly Waring in the A string 400m hurdles and a fourth place for Olivia Reah in the B string. In the men’s 400 hurdles Keith McGhie and Jason Newell both secured fifth place finishes in the A and B string. The women’s 100 metres Holly Martin ran a strong race to finish fourth in the A string with Mia Butler running close to her season’s best in the B string. In the men’s 100 metres Dominic Lamb wiped the floor with a first place finish with Geoff Render running a season’s best in the B string. Dom’s form continued in the 200 metres, where a solid run lead to another first place, as well as a near-PB run from Mason Smith. A PB run in the women’s 200 saw Holly Martin securing third place followed up by a PB run for Mia Butler.
Back to the field where Darren Thomas followed his hammer performance with a first place in the discus and shot A string and a first place in the B string javelin. Jake Darby continued his hammer form with a second in the Discus B string as well as two PB’s in the High and triple jump. Glenn Aspindle extended his point haul with a third place in the High jump and a second place in the javelin A string. Toby Aspindle was not to be shown up by his younger brother throwing his way into second in the shot putt B string. Jason Newell backed up his pole vault with a third place finish in the triple jump B String.
For the women’s field Beth Thomas and Charlotte Bell both finished second in the Discus as well as both gaining points for the team in the javelin. The mother daughter combo of Beth and Fiona Thomas also gained two more second places in the shot put and could only be split by a cm. In the jump we scored good points with Olivia Reah finished second in the triple jump, with Emma Rawnsley scoring well in the B string and the A string High jump with her first competition of the season. A recovering Molly Waring also did her part for the team by getting points in the high jump.
The results carried on to the track Ciara Flannery, recovering from injury, strode to second place in the A string as well as filling in the 800 metres. Mia butler had a first attempt at the 400 metres alongside Ciara. Amanda Pearson showed her team spirit with two inspiring runs in the 800 metres and 1500 metres, She was joined in the 1500 metres by Natasha Geere who ran a PB to claim fifth place in the A string followed by a PB in the 3000 metres too.
Continuing with the men’s track Mason Smith and Daniel Smith both just missed out on PBs in the 400 metres. Daniel carried his form into the 800 metres accompanied by Simon Bolland who both ran solid races. Paul Davis started this year’s track season with an impressive run in the 1500 metres accompanied by Ian Ogden who played his part for the team. In the steeplechase Keith McGhie and Steve Hunt were most likely relieved with the water jump on such a warm day, both running well with Steven just missing out on a PB. Joe Sagar and Kevin Ogden had a hard run in the 5000 metres on the warm day but two good runs saw Joe finish fourth in the A string and Kevin fifth in the B string. The brotherly combo of Toby and Glenn both competed in the 110 metre hurdles with Glenn finishing second in the A string and Toby finished fourth in the B string.
We had all four relay teams at Bury, The Men’s 4x100 metres made up of Smith, Darby, Aspindle, Lamb got the baton round in sixth just missing out on fifth. The women’s 4x100 metres consisting of Rawnsley, Reah, Flannery and Martin completed their relay in fourth place. To the 4x400 metres the men’s team of McGhie, Smith, Smith, Davis finished the relay faultlessly and so did the women’s team of Waring, Butler, Geere and Flannery.
