Great team effort to beat off Bury and East Cheshire

Spenborough's senior athletes began their Northern League Division 2 campaign at Blackburn on Saturday with many good individual performances and a great team effort. The team finished fourth of the six teams behind Blackburn, Bolton and Holmfirth. Molly Waring gave the team a great start with victory in the women's 400 meter hurdles. Molly also finished second in the 400 meters. Holly Martin did some great sprinting placing fourth in the 100 and 200 meters. From the throwing circle Beth Thomas and Fiona Thomas dominated the hammer throwing and shot putting with victories in the 'A' and 'B' events. Beth was second in the discus throw. However valuable points were collected by Natasha Geere, Amanda Pearson and Mia Butler who circled the track in the middle distance events.

Back on the track Dominic Lamb won the 100 and 200 meters. However the star of the Spenborough team was multi talented Glenn Aspindle. Glenn won javelin throw, long jump, pole vault and was second in the 110 meter hurdles. Glenn also won the 'B' triple jump with fellow Spen athlete Ben Wilson winning the 'A' event. Glenn's brother Toby Aspindle won the 'B' shot putt with Darren Thomas winning the 'A' event. Darren and Toby finished second in the 'A' and 'B' hammer competition. Team manager Jason Newell won the 'B' pole vault and Jason, like a number of other Spenborough athletes, took part in other events gaining valuable points in this keenly contested league.

Performances for individual athletes can be found on the Power of 10 website.
