In the midst of all the recent football hype, 17 Spen runners pounded the rural roads of Greetland in what was possibly the greatest sporting feat of the year...sorry, England!
As the scorching sun arced across a cloudless sky, this notoriously challenging course proved itself no match for Spen runners of all ages.
Our first Spen runner home and 2nd vet 40 overall was Edward Revell, closely followed by stalwart Gerard Skippins in 39:11. Finishing in 45:03 was Craig Hampshire, closely followed by Claire Thompson, who was also the 2nd vet 35.
Kudos to all the Spen runners scooping up prizes in a race which also incorporated the Yorkshire veterans’ 10k championship.
Well done to Steven Moss for finishing 3rd in the vet 65 category. The highlight of the night, however, has to be the announcer at the prize giving who managed to get Gerard’s name wrong, as Gerard picked up a prize for someone called Gerald....like Caesar crossing the rubicon!
