Yorkshire Marathon & 10 mile race

Spenborough's Joe Sagar ran a courageous race in the PlusNet York Ten miles road race on Sunday finishing second to the more experienced Mike Burrett from Leeds City AC. Joe ran with the leader for much of the race but eventually had to give way and hung on to finish in a personal best time of 55 minutes 19 seconds. Joe was one large number of runners from the Spenborough club who to part in the PlusNet Yorkshire marathon and ten miles races. 

In the marathon Martin Hall won the veteran over fifty five award in 3 hours 4 minutes and 51 seconds finishing 119th overall from over 3000 runners. Leading Spenborough runner in the marathon was Kevin Ogden who was 23rd in 2hrs 48mins 53sec. Kevin was 5th veteran over 40. Edwin Korir from Kenya won the race. Kirsty Moon and Claire Thompson were the leading women from Spenborough in the marathon coming in 2906th and 2907th both recording a time of 4hrs 47mins 35secs. Other Spen runners in the marathon were Neil Barker 174th in 3h 09m 16s, Katy Gomersall 3114th in 4h 56m 31s and Susan Jackson 3544th in 5h 30m 27s. 

In the 10 mile race Joanne Burden was the leading Spenborough woman finishing 493rd in 1h 24m 37s. Other Spen runners were Darren Wake 91st 1h 10m 16s, Grant Cooper 391st 1h 22m 18s, Rob Chaplin 415th 1h 22m 57s, Elizabeth Bottomley 541st 1h 25m 24s, Jackie Carter 552nd 1h 25m 41s, Danielle Lockwood 1115th 1h 39m 18s and Lorraine Brierley 1116th 1h 39m 19s.
