On a glorious sunny mild autumn afternoon the cross country runners from Spenborough turned out for the second West Yorkshire Cross Country League races at Fartown, Huddersfield on Saturday 31st October. Despite the summer like weather the ground was soft and most runners found the hilly course very demanding and energy sapping.

The senior men placed sixth team and were again lead in by Joe Sagar placing 10th. Joe was followed by Kevin Ogden (19th), Neil Barker (53rd), JohnTurpin (63rd), Martin Hall (70th) and Gerard Skipping (73rd). Other Spen runners were Edward Revell, Oliver Carter, Ian Wilson, Anthony Bradford, Stephen Hunt, Ian Ogden, Dave Bulter, Grant Cooper and Rob Chaplin. The race was won by international fell runner Tom Adams from Ilkley.

In the senior women's race Becky Rowlands led the Spenborough runners in 24th place. Other senior women were Jenni Muston (33rd), Natasha Greere (41st), Sarah Barker (83rd) and Jackie Carter (89th). The Spen women placed 8th team and the race was won by Katie Walsh from Holmfirth.

It was good to see a few more runners from Spen in the younger age races and we had at least one runner in each race. Tobin Rhodes finished seventh in the under seventeen men's race and Courtney Benson placed twentieth in the under seventeen women's race. The under fifteen girls team of Molly Warring, Lydia Hall, Sienna Haynes and Alice Cooper placed sixth team while Nickolas Brackenridge (23rd) and his brother Harry (10th) were the only Spen runner in the under fifteen and thirteen boy's races. The Spen under thirteen girls team of Olivia Reah, Summer Haynes, Mia Butler and Emily Smaling were 9th team. The first races of the day saw Jack Barraclough, Logan Bailey and James Bell place ninth team in the under eleven boy's race while Molly Firth placed 23rd in under eleven girl's race.
