Spenborough AC’s throwers have enjoyed success over recent times and they continue this trend as the young athletes collected a haul of medals at the Yorkshire Athletics Championships at Cudworth in May 2015.

Yorkshire Octathlon multi-event champion Glenn Aspindle restricted himself to just two events at the Yorkshire Championships, and secured two gold medals, winning the Under-20 javelin throw and following up with a win in the triple jump.

Charlotte Bell won gold in theUnder-15 discus and secured a creditable 5th place in the shot put.  Jake Darby performed well in the Under-17 hammer and with a personal best secured second place and a silver medal, whilst in the shot put he threw another personal best and was unlucky to finish out of the medals.

Sheila Bolland returned to compete in the senior ladies javelin and was rewarded with a second place and silver medal.

In-form Erin Newsome was beaten into second place in both the Under-20 Women’s’ 100 and 200 metre races, whilst training partner Leon Greenwood was beaten into second in both the Under-20 Men’s 100 and 200 metre races.

Another young sprinter Mason Smith competed in the Under-15 boys and won gold in the 300 metre sprint, qualified for the final of the 200m, and performed well in the long jump.

Paul Davis in the Under-20 men’s 3000 metres put in a season’s best performance to be rewarded with a bronze medal.

Other competitors were Simon Bolland, Alex Rowell, Georgia Smith-Calvert who qualified for the final of the Under-17 women’s 200 metres, Lucy Butterworth, Tobin Rhodes competing in his first 3000 metre race and Molly Waring.
