Glenn Aspindle and Ciara Flannery were Spenborough Athletics Club's key athletes in the Northern Senior League division three at Bury on Sunday 12th July. Glenn won the 400 metres hurdles and the javelin throw while Ciara won the women's 100 and 200 meter races. The club's throwers were out in force with Linda North winning the hammer, finishing second in the discus throw and third in the shot. It was good to see one the club's best ever throwers Nick Crimmen back. Nick took part in the men's hammer, discus and shot finishing second in all three events. Spenborough finished third of the six teams behind Trafford and Pendle thanks to athletes like Jason Newall and Rosa McKie who had busy afternoons taking part in many events. Jason took part in six events which included second in the 'B' high jump and first in the 'B' 400 hurdles while Rosa did five events including second in the high jump and first in the 'B' 400 hurdles. The Ogden brothers stepped out of their comfort zone with Kevin doing a leg of the 4x400 relay and Ian having a go in the 1500. However both gave good performances in the 5000 with Kevin finishing third in the 'A' race and Ian second in the 'B'. Spenborough remain second in the league after three matches and are looking good for promotion. The next match is on our home track on Saturday 8th August.
