Spenborough hosted our trophy meeting in memory of Ivan Stringer, a former Membership Secretary and Coach for many years, on 31st August. A fine sunny day welcomed athletes and supporters from local clubs and from further away to our club. A number of Spenborough athletes took the opportunity to obtain some late season competition. Nick Crimmen won the senior men's shot and was unfortunate to have three no throws in the hammer. In the senior women's hammer Sheila Bolland came fifth in the hammer and fifth in the shot. Other Spen throwers performing well were Glenn Aspindle winning the under 17 men's discus and Charlotte Pickard winning the under 13 girl's discus. Under 17 women Erin Newsome and Ashton Greenwood continued their fine season with first and second respectively in the 100 and 200 meters. Under 11 girl Natalie Groves won the 75, 150 and 600 meter races, the latter in 1 min 54.8 secs, a time that many of our senior distance runners would be pleased with.
