Calderdale Way Relay

Thanks to sterling work from team manager Jackie Carter Spenborough's senior men took part in the Calderdale Way Relay on Sunday 17th May. The race, organised by Halifax Harriers, involves teams of twelve runners running in pairs covering the 53 miles Calderdale Way in six stages starting at the Clay House in Greetland and finishing at the near by Heath rugby club. Spenborough finished 42nd of the 88 teams. Martin Hall and Neil Barker gave the team a great start finishing 21st at the change over at Cragg Vale. Martin Peck and Anthony Bradford held a good position finishing 23rd at Todmorden. the younger runners Ryan Dransfield and Henry Carter held on to a top thirty place on the climb to Blackshaw Head and Oliver Carter and John Turpin maintained that place on the long fourth leg over Midgley Moor to Wainstalls. Grant Cooper and Rob Moon were 32nd at the final change over at Shelf, missing the cut off for the mass start by less than ten minutes. Mick Dransfield and Rob Chaplin brought the team back to Greetland with the whole team covering the way in 7hours 52mins 31secs. Calderdale Fell Runners won the race in 5hrs 53mins 06secs.
