Team Spen do it again in Lower YDL

Another successful day for the lower YDL, with numerous great performances across all the team.

We started the day with two second places in the under 13 girls’ 75m hurdles from Molly Firth and Chelsea Butterworth. Molly followed her second place with a second place in thein the high jump and a third place in the 150 metres. Chelsea also carried her form on in the 800 metres claiming a second place. The results kept coming in with excellent performances from Ella Barnes and Estelle Williams, Ella ran the 75 metres for the first time and Estelle Williams set a new pb in her race as well. Ella followed up her 75 metres with a second in both the 800 metres and in the high jump. Estelle carried on with the pb form, claiming another in the 150 metres and just missing out on one in the long jump but finishing third place.
It was a silver day for Isabel Toher claiming two second places in the 1200 metres and the long jump. Following Isabel’s second Sophia Foulger also finished second in the 1200 metres and she also tried the javelin for the first time and ended up finishing third as well as a fourth in the shot putt. And the success carried on in the field Lily Croughan with a second place in the shot put throwing 1cm less than her pb, followed up with a third place in the javelin. The girl’s 4x100 metre relay team consisting of Butterworth, Croughan, Foulger and Firth got the baton round faultlessly in third place.
The success carried on in the under 13 boys with Lucas Barnes showing his talents by picking up a second in the 100 metres, 800 metres and the javelin as well as securing a pb in the 100 metres and 800 metres. Daniel Hayhurst had his first track competition and had an impressive day with a second in the 1500 metres and a fourth in the 200 metres. We also gathered another third in the 1500 metres by Jack Barrowclough who also managed to skilfully land a shot putt in the same place on two different throws to claim a third place finish. The boy’s team also had continued success in the filed from James Bell who won the shot put as well as a second in the long jump and also won the 75 metre hurdles.
The first places kept coming in the under 15 girls with Natalie Groves winning the 100 metres and 200 metres and tried a first attempt at the javelin. And the good results just carried on with two second place finishes for Ellie Holden in the 200 and 300 metres and a fourth in the long jump just missing out on a pb. This seemed a trend for the girls as Harriet Haycock missed out on a pb in the 100 metres by 0.1 seconds to finish fourth, she also faced her last minute fears and had a successful run over the 75 metre hurdles as well as a first try at the long jump. Tilly Bowen ran a nice race to finish second in the 300 metres and threw her way into third place with a mighty throw in the shot putt.
For the under 15 boys we were solely represented by Lewis Barnes who had two really well run races to finish second in both the 100 metres and 200 metres just missing out on pb’s in both.
Thank you to all the officials who helped and supporters who came along making a real team atmosphere.
