Spenborough hosted the Yorkshire Veteran's Athletics Championships on Sunday (12th Oct). Our Catering Manager Sheila Bolland did much of the arrangements including gathering officials so late in the season. Sheila had time to win the shot, discus, hammer and triple jump in her age group. Our recently crowned European Veteran Champion Keith McGhie competed in the 1500m and 400m finishing second in both events in very respectable times of 4m 39.22s and 58.23s. Another distance runner to double up was Martin Hall who finished 3rd in both the 1500 m (4m 55.46s) and the 5000m (18m 21.03s). In the latter race the run away winner was our leading veteran distance runner Kevin Ogden who won in 16m 17.08s. Jason Newall also had an energetic afternoon competing in the high jump (1.50), the 200m (28.22) and the javelin. Other throwers in action were Jayne Lawrence winning the discus (30.97m) and finishing second in the shot 9.53m. Nick Crimmen enjoyed three victories in the throws with 12.09m shot, 30.86m discus and 40.36m.
