Strong finish for Spen at the final upper YDL

YDL Upper match 3- Spen claim another fourth place finish

Once again we started the final day strong with three first places and a second place in the first four events, Molly Waring started with a first in the 400 metre hurdles and Olivia Reah with a second in the 300 metre hurdles. This followed up by a first in the under 20‘s hammer for Jake Darby and a first in the under 17’s hammer for Connor Bell.
And Spenborough continued to perform well throughout the day in the rather warm conditions. In the Under 17 men, Ben Wilson was not to be beaten in the 100 metres sprinting his way to his first win of the day, followed by another win in the triple jump and a forth in the 200 metres. Continuing on the track Jacob Pollard claimed a third place in the 100 metres, as well as two fourth places in the 200 metres and the long jump. Onto the throws where Connor continued on from his hammer win with a win in the discus and a second in the discus.
In the under 17 girls, Olivia Reah jumped her way to a win in the triple jump as well as a second place in the long jump. Mia Butler ran a good race in the heat to finish second in the 3,000 metres as well as a pb throw in the discus. Hannah McQuinn finished third in the 300 metres on her first try at it, a fourth place in the 800 metres in a personal best time and a first try at the shot scoring good points for the team. It was the first competition of the season for Lucy Wharton, where two strong runs in the 100 and 200 metres to just miss out on her personal bests but scoring good points for the team. Also in the sprints, Madison Nash gained two personal bests in both the 100 and 200 metres combined with a third place finish in the long jump.
Continuing with the under 20 women a combo of Molly and Lucy Butterworth sprinted their way to two second places in the A and B string, Lucy followed this up a second place in the long jump as well. In the throws there was on stopping Jess Hirst and Charlotte Bell, Jess claimed two firsts in the discus and the javelin as well as two second in the hammer and the shot. Charlotte had a golden day with four first places in the hammer, shot, javelin and discus in the B string.
A combined relay team of Wharton, Waring, McQuinn and Butterworth successfully got the baton round faultlessly in first place.
In the under 20 men, Jake Darby followed his hammer win up with two second places in the shot and discus as well as a fourth in the javelin.
