Great Day at the Great North Run

By Kevin Aspindle

Mo Farah finished first in under one hour, with Joe Sagar less than 14 minutes behind him

SIR MO Farah became the first male runner to win five consecutive Simplyhealth Great North Runs with another victory at the famous half marathon, on a day when Joe Sagar finished in the top 30 with an awesome time of 1:13:15

Farah clocked 59.26 to complete his quintet of victories with last year's runner-up Jake Robertson once more finishing second, taking a personal best time of 59.57 while Belgian distance runner Bashir Abdi finishing third in 1:00:43.

Simon Bolland was the second Spenborough & District AC runner home, finishing 176 with a great time of 1:24:01. A terrific achievement on such a hot day in the North East, one that his late grandma, Sheila Bolland would have been so proud of.

Lee Dolman was running the race for the 13th time, raising funds and awareness for the Meningitis Research Foundation, but the heat had him beat and he was unable to improve on his PB, recording a time of 1:49:04. Still a great time and a worthwhile cause that will benefit from his hard-earned achievement.

Our other club finishers at this iconic event, which had over 50,000 runners, were Ian Ogden (1:32:10), Mark Smith (1:46:31), Darren Twigg (1:47:57),Barbara Millett (2:09:08), Joanne Ormondroyd (2:16:10), Clara Moore (2:17:55), Susan Jackson (2:36:26), Victoria Lister (3:13:13) and Claire Manton (3:13:13).

Well done to all runners in Red & Gold - a great day at the Great North Run!
