The meeting was dedicated in remembrance of Sheila Bolland, a well-known and loyal member of Spenborough & District Athletic Club, who passed away earlier this year.

Sheila was known throughout the North of England for her enthusiasm, friendship and humour. She was a stalwart of Spenborough AC and Yorkshire AA, competing and helping at every level. Sheila knew and was known by just about everybody involved in local athletics. She first brought her four children to the club but she thought she’d rather get involved than stand around and she was quickly volunteered into the sport.

Sheila competed in all athletics events from hammer throwing to three London marathons in over the 20 years she was involved. In 2009 Sheila received the England Athletics Services to Officiating for the Yorkshire and Humberside region. She was very surprised and pleased to receive the award and said “It’s nice to be nominated, it’s lovely, I’m so pleased." Sheila always had a kind word, a heart warming smile and a funny comment for every occasion, not least when she was slogging around cross country courses or throwing hammers for the joy of taking part. Sheila was a one-off and she is very much missed. Frank Reddington - Secretary
